A supplier whose domain was registered 3 weeks ago deserves a second look. Age proves nothing by itself. A new domain behind an established-sounding company is worth a question.
Sizing up a competitor
Whether the site outranking you has been there 12 years or 12 months changes how you read the gap and what it takes to close it.
Buying or valuing a domain
Registration date and expiry are the first 2 facts in any domain purchase. An expiry inside 30 days is worth asking about before you sign.

The definition
How old is a website?
A website’s age is its domain’s age: the date the domain name was first registered. That date is public record, published by the registry that runs the extension, and it does not move when the site is redesigned, rehosted or sold.
So website age can mislead. Slack’s domain was registered in 1992, 21 years before Slack launched. The date tells you how long the address has existed, not how long the business behind it has.

How do I find out when a website was created?
The closest public fact is the domain’s registration date, which the checker above returns. A page’s own publish date is set by whoever built the site and can be edited at any time, so it is not evidence of when the site began. For what a site actually contained on a given day, the Internet Archive has kept snapshots since 1996.
Is the domain age checker free?
Yes. No signup, no email and no daily limit for normal use. Registry lookups cost us nothing to run, so there is nothing to charge for.
Why can't you find the age of my domain?
Some registries publish no registration dates at all. Country extensions including .de, .io, .co, .us, .me and .eu are the common cases, and about 5 percent of the domains we audit sit on one. That is the registry’s policy rather than a problem with your domain, and no checker can work around it.
Can I check several domains at once?
One at a time. Every check is a live query to the domain registry rather than a cached lookup, so the answer is always current. Paste the next domain over the last one and press Check age again.
Does domain age affect SEO?
Less than most people think. Google has said repeatedly that domain age is not a ranking factor by itself. What correlates with age is everything that accumulates alongside it: links, content and a track record. A 15-year-old domain with no links will not outrank a 1-year-old domain that earned them. What is the difference between RDAP and WHOIS?
RDAP is the modern replacement for WHOIS. WHOIS returns free text whose format differs from registry to registry, so tools have to guess at parsing it. RDAP returns structured data with a defined schema, which is why the dates here are reliable rather than best-effort. Cruelx uses RDAP only.
Can I check a subdomain like blog.example.com?
You can paste one, and we will check example.com. Domain names are registered at the root, so a subdomain has no registration date of its own. We always show which domain we looked up, so there is no doubt about what the date belongs to.
Does a domain's age change when it is sold?
No. The registration date belongs to the domain name, not to its owner, so a sale leaves it untouched. That matters when you are valuing a domain: an old registration date tells you the address is established, not that the business on it is.
